Carol Ewels
Managing Director
Carol Ewels set up Always Consult following a career as a highly experienced Senior Business Leader. This included more than 20 years’ service with Barclays Bank PLC, working in a variety of management and leadership roles. Her many skills include coaching and developing individuals to achieve their full potential. Carol is passionate about people development and takes professional pride in attaining the highest possible standards. Carol is a qualified Assessor in the Advice and Guidance, Customer Service, Business Administration, Management and Coaching sectors. She is the Head of the Qualification Centre and maintains overall responsibility for Assessment and Quality Assurance.

Roddy Christie
Director of Apprenticeships
After a degree in Modern History, Roddy started his working life as an Army Officer. He rose to the rank of Major with his final job being developing the management practices of military headquarters of all sizes who were deploying on operational tours. Since leaving the military Roddy has undertaken a number of roles in the UK and abroad as an Operations Manager in Africa, a Commercial Director with a global team and a Managing Director of an apprenticeship training company. Roddy is the Director of Apprenticeships at Always Consult, and is responsible for running that arm of the business. He has led the team that has developed our level 3 and level 5 apprenticeship courses and continues to develop other, new innovative and bespoke apprenticeship courses. Roddy believes passionately about the need to train leaders and managers in all work environments to ensure they are set up for success.

Tony Lloyd
Head of Delivery
Tony has worked in the sector for over 15 years after a successful career in footwear and sports fashion retailing from leaving school. He has managed varied teams across many vocational subject areas during this time. Tony is very much a people manager and is always striving to bring the best out of his teams in order to further enhance their own careers and excel at what they do. Tony’s main objective as Head of Delivery is for the whole team to strive for a higher standard of operational delivery across all areas of training delivery.

Michael Harper
Head of Technical Services
Michael’s role is to help Always Consult’s back office to run as smoothly as possible, and to ensure that the company uses technology to its best advantage, translating business needs into practical and cost-effective technical solutions. Although he specialises in data analysis, data migration, databases and web application development, he has worked in a wide variety of roles, from teaching English to company directors in Barcelona, to developing a specialist digital CCTV application.

Bill Kawai-Calderhead
Head of Clinical Leadership
Bill originally failed to get into medicine and, instead, became an Army Officer at 18 years old. Some 10 years later he decided that he actually really wanted to be a doctor and retrained. Bill did his Foundation Programme at South Tees NHS Foundation Trust where he completed the PGCert MedEd. With South Tees and Always Consult, Bill produced a specialist clinically-focused Level 3 Standard Apprenticeship, the first of its kind in the UK. Bill has presented his projects nationally and won several prizes including Trainees in the Association for the Study of Medical Education (TASME) Young Educator of The Year Award. Bill is the Head of Clinical Leadership at Always Consult. He is passionate for inclusion of clinical leadership and management within the medical training pathway to ensure doctors are prepared for their roles and strives to ingrain this into the clinical workplace.

Adrian Pitt
Senior Careers and IAG Training Co-ordinator
Adrian has worked with children and young people for over 15 years. His specialism is supporting those youngsters not in education, employment or training to overcome their barriers and realise their aspirations. As an experienced practitioner, Manager and trainer for the Connexions Information, Advice and Guidance service, Adrian took his passion for supporting staff in the sector and set up his own company, Develop-meant Training Consultants, in October 2009. Having also managed a Grade “A” awarded NVQ Centre, Adrian brings his knowledge and experience of Assessing and internal Quality Assurance to his role as Senior Careers and IAG Training Co-ordinator with Always Consult.

Helen Birchall
Office Manager
Helen is Always Consult’s Office Manager, bringing with her over 20 years of experience in administration, together with sales and marketing. Helen’s role is to ensure the office runs smoothly, liaising with both associates and candidates. Helen balances her role at Always Consult alongside looking after her young family and also volunteers in the reception class of her local school supporting children with their reading and learning.
