Training, Assessment and Internal Quality Assurance (TAQA)

TAQA (Training Assessment and Quality Assurance) qualifications are for anyone working in, or hoping to work in, assessment and internal quality assurance in non-accredited or accredited learning i.e. assessing QCF qualifications. This includes managers in a range of industries and those working in quality assurance.

For Assessors we recommend a Level 3 Award Certificate in Training Assessment and Quality Assurance. The following units come under this “umbrella”:

City & Guilds Level 3 Award in Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment (6317-30): A knowledge-only Award for those starting their journey as an assessor, or those who need to know about assessment practice but are not currently practising.

City & Guilds Level 3 Award in Assessing Competence in the Work Environment (6317-31): For existing practitioners who assess the demonstration of competence in a work environment using the following assessment methods: observation/examining work products/oral questioning and discussion/use of witnesses/learner statements/Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).

City & Guilds Level 3 Award in Assessing Vocationally Related Achievement (6317-32): For existing practitioners who assess knowledge and/or skills in vocationally related subject areas using the following assessment methods: assessments in simulated environments/skills tests/oral and written questions/assignments/projects/case studies/RPL.

City & Guilds Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (6317-33): For existing practitioners who may use ALL of the above assessment methods based upon sound assessment principles.

How long will my qualification take to complete?

City and Guilds, the Awarding Body, gives you up to two years to complete your qualification, but in our experience, it usually takes between six and nine months.

For Quality Assurance Staff we recommend the Level 4 Awards for Internal Quality Assurance staff. Under this “umbrella” you have the following Units:

The Level 4 Award in Understanding the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice is a knowledge-only award for those starting their journey as Internal Quality Assurance practitioners or those who need to know about internal quality assurance but are not carrying out quality assurance themselves.

The Level 4 Award in the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice is for practitioners who currently conduct internal quality assurance of the assessment process from within a centre/organisation by sample planning, monitoring and advising on the practice of assessors.

The Level 4 Certificate in Leading the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice is for practitioners who currently lead the internal quality assurance process within a centre/organisation and have responsibility for managing assessment process quality, practice and Assessor performance.
